Happy National Small Business Week to all of our clients! What does that even mean, you might ask. Since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the valuable contributions of America’s small business owners. You can read this year’s proclamation here.
America has always loved its entrepreneurs and fostered the dream that anyone with a good idea and crazy work ethic can make it. Our nation’s strength of diversity may be best represented in the small businesses where you can find doggy daycares, accounting firms, Etsy sellers, food trucks, financial advisors, artists, software developers, designers, fabricators, counselors and so much more! You may be surprised to learn that according to the Bureau of Labor, small businesses created 10.5 million net new jobs between 2000 and 2019, accounting for 65.1% of net new jobs created since 2000. That is no small contribution!
Earlier this year, Nerd Wallet posted some great stats around small businesses. Just a few here:
- $48 of every $100 spent at a small business stays local
- 72% of Americans prioritize shopping local over getting the best deal
- Of the 5.6 million PPP loans approved in 2021, 5 million went to businesses with 10 or fewer employees
- Almost 20% of businesses are owned by women.
This Week’s To-Do
We suggest that you take a few minutes to send an email or create a social media post to remind your customers of your origin story and why you still love what you do. In this email or social media post, show appreciation to the loyal customers, partners and staff who help make your company even better. We are truly all in this together!
Cheers to small business owners everywhere and keep up the good work!
